What does a farm profile consist of?
As DCT is meant to gather all information the Acorn program needs for farmer participation, all requested data is important for onboarding.
The app will make fields visible as you progress in your collection efforts.
In a nutshell, three types of data is collected:
Farm details - here all data regarding the farm and farmer is collected, this includes personal details, address information and contact types.
Legal documents - For participation the app will guide you through the process of gathering the participant agreement and the data sharing consent. For more information visit the relevant articles.
Polygon and plot information - in this stage you map the farm land, and gather all information that you see. This includes crop details and land use.
Creating a farm profile
On the "in progress" page, you will find you active farmers. If farmers have been assigned to you, they will be found here. If non have been assigned and you wish to create a profile, this also happens via this tab.
To create a profile:
Stay in the "farm" overview
If no farm has been added yet, select the plus button in the middle to add a farmer.
2. If there are already profiles in the page, select the button in the top right corner.
Done!
Eligibility checklist
Acorn works with smallholder farmers. After creating a farm profile, the app will guide you through a checklist to see if the farmer is eligible for the program.
If the farm is larger than 10 hectares, and hires labour, the farm will not be able to participate.
Collecting personal information
Before any other data can be collected, you will need to collect the participant agreement and the data sharing consent. For more information regarding these, please refer to the respective articles.
Once these are collected the app will show the option to gather further information.
The farmer detail page will go into the basic information regarding the farmer. Once you've reached the farmer address page note that not all fields are mandatory. The app is created for worldwide use, to accommodate different addresses most fields are left optional. This does not mean that it can be left blank, if you have the address details, add them accordingly. If these are not added, and your local partner is then not able to find the farmer, you may need to return for recollection.
Note: discuss with your local partner what high quality farmer details look like for your project.
Collecting contact information
As with the farm details, contact information is meant to find farmers for seedling handouts, pay-outs and other project related actions. If this data is not up to par, this will hinder the onboarding process.
FAQ's
Acorn works with the Sustainable Development Goals. To monitor the impact of the program, an estimation is made of the people that are benefited. This is done via the number of people in the household of the farmer.
Every organization uses it's own way of organizing data. Your local partner may want to link data from DCT to their own system. In that case, they can add a reference ID.
Note: this must be a unique ID.
Your farmer might have a special role in the community. They may be an educator or lead farmer. This information can help contact the respective farmer.
