Overview
We are seeking dedicated and highly qualified individuals to join our Acorn's Scientific Advisory Committee to assist us in our mission to support small holder farmer communities in their transition to sustainable agroforestry through issuing high quality carbon credits.
This role is on voluntary basis and it is ideal for academics holding a PhD and possessing expertise in remote sensing, statistics, machine learning and AI, sampling strategies, uncertainty, biomass, deforestation, biodiversity, sustainability and sustainable development goals, carbon and carbon markets, carbon methodology and certification, additionality assessment and monitoring and evaluation of project impact.
Committee members will have the unique opportunity to be on the frontend of strategy, policy, certification and scientific discussions, and make visible and long-lasting impact. The members will be able to expand their network, and collaborate with leading institutions and commercial companies on innovative projects, including piloting new products, proof of concept development, internship co-supervision, proposal writing and knowledge and data sharing initiatives.
Key responsibilities
Provide expert advice and guidance on scientific and technical matters related to remote sensing, statistics, machine learning and AI, sampling strategies, uncertainty, biomass, deforestation, biodiversity, carbon and carbon markets, methodology drafting, and additionality assessment.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and pilot new products and proof of concept initiatives.
Contribute to the drafting and review of methodologies and standards in the relevant fields.
Participate in regular committee meetings and provide input on strategic planning and project prioritization.
Qualifications
PhD in a relevant field such as Remote Sensing, Statistics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
Extensive experience and expertise in at least one of the following areas: remote sensing, statistics, machine learning and AI, sampling strategies, uncertainty, biomass, deforestation, sustainability, biodiversity, carbon and carbon markets, methodology drafting, additionality and impact assessment.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets and scientific literature.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary and cross-sector teams.
Commitment to advancing scientific research and practical applications in the fields of remote sensing, carbon markets, and environmental conservation.
